Guy Davis

"Guy Davis is a throw back; A throw back to an era
where the musician was both storyteller and
entertainer. Davis ’ style is well rooted in early blues
tradition, most notably Delta blues, but he can also
pull off Piedmont or any other style that is called for
     at any given time."

News Flash

Well, here it is FINALLY – the brand newly designed website!  And on behalf of Guy and all who work for him, we owe a huge thanks to Linda Martinez, the world’s greatest webmistress !

The site is perpetually a ‘work in progress’ (just ask Linda and I) so if you have suggestions on making the site work better for you, or feedback on things, please don’t hesitate to drop Linda or I a line.

And keep those photos you’ve taken of Guy posing with you, or of him onstage with other performers, as well as your comments and reviews coming.  Another new feature we’re trying to keep track of is Guy’s set lists.  Guy doesn’t use one, never has, never will.  Nor does he often remember what he played after the show, so if you’re into that sort of thing, feel free to send us a list from the show you were at, even if it’s just a partial listing.

“Skunkmello” is enjoying HUGE critical acclaim from fans and press alike, and Guy is MOST grateful.  It received an unbelievable 5-star review in “Downbeat” magazine, considered ‘the bible’ of the Jazz Music world, but which does a great service covering Blues and related Roots oriented musical styles.  They don’t hand out 5-star reviews lightly.  A big THANK YOU to the folks there.

After its release Guy had a busy summer touring overseas and in North America as well as teaching at his favorite Music Camps.  He plans on skipping this summer’s camps at Common Ground in Maryland and Summer Acoustic Music Week in New Hampshire for a year, freeing up some time to concentrate on playing at as many festivals and events as he can.

We welcome to the team our newest Booking Agent, Joanna Serraris, based in Holland, who will cover the Be-Ne-Lux region.  And we say fair-well to our friends Marty and Petra (Urban World), who used to handle the bookings for Germany and Eastern Europe.  We wish them all the best.

What’s ahead ?  Well, we’re hoping a live recording of the Guy Davis Trio, with Mark Murphy (bass) and Nerak Roth Patterson (electric guitar) will be released in a special, limited-edition series over in Germany.  It was recorded at the famed studios of Radio Bremen in northern Germany.  We hope that will be released in time for a May-June tour in that region.

There will be a DVD of the Trio plus Canada’s own Ken Whitely, recorded at the gorgeous Banff Center for the Arts in the Alberta Rockies, released in the new year.  And we’re also hoping Guy’s long-awaited audio version of his one-man play, “In Bed With the Blues: the adventures of Fishy Waters” will be released sometime this Spring.

And believe it or not, Guy will begin recording his next Red House Records album sometime this winter.

So, lots more ahead, stay tuned !

Cheers,

Thom
